Why this site exists

Water information is often spread across environmental databases, utility reports, regulatory records, and documents that use unfamiliar units. Hard Water Index organizes those sources into local pages and explains the limits of each record alongside the number.

The goal is not to issue a universal “safe” or “unsafe” score. It is to help readers ask better questions: How hard is the nearby water? Which public system is associated with this place? Is a value a local tap measurement, a utility-wide record, or a nearby environmental estimate? What should be confirmed before buying treatment?

What we publish

  • ZIP-level profiles with transparent source and matching notes.
  • City and state summaries derived from available local profiles.
  • Plain-language guides to hardness units, reports, testing, and treatment.
  • Clear unavailable states when the source data does not support a value.

How the project is funded

Some treatment links may be affiliate links. If a reader makes a qualifying purchase, the site may receive a commission without increasing the reader's price. Commercial relationships do not change the source data, thresholds, or disclosure of missing information. Read theaffiliate disclosure andeditorial policy for details.
